Backscatter recently dove again with the Manthiri. A refit has given the Manthiri a large and gracious air conditioned salon. Half of this salon is organized with couches into cozy islands where small groups of passengers may gather to visit, or seek privacy in their book. The other half of this comfortable salon serves as the dining room with two large round tables giving everyone plenty of elbowroom. The food was superb and lavish with a European/American/Indian flair. There is a meat and a fish course at every meal. No report about this fine dive boat would be complete without mentioning the exceptional crew that acts as your host, food service, cabin maintenance, and dive crew. Working in exceptional harmony this crew of eleven will have learned all your habits by the second day. January Shutterbugs Photo Presentation

Shutterbugs meetings are on the first Wednesday of the month, N. 32^nd Street, Phoenix, AZ at 7:00pm. The Elks Lodge has a Wednesday night Steak Cookout starting at 5:30 pm and we are invited to join in. Cost: $9. Come early and join us before the meeting at 7 pm.. All members are encouraged to bring prints for display and up to 20 digital images for projecting. Images should be stored on a compact flashcard or other storage device and filed under the maker’s name. The photos in this presentation were taken in Indonesia, primarily in a very remote dive resort called Wakatobi, and in Raja Ampat island archipelago aboard the Kararu. I spend the entire month of November 2009 exploring this bio-diverse region of the world. Photo Gallery.

A tour of Oasis Bird Sanctuary

The Oasis Sanctuary is a life-care facility for captive Exotic birds. In particular they are a refuge for parrots, cockatoos, macaws and other Psittacine birds. As a true sanctuary, they do not offer birds for adoption, however they work with and refer birds requiring re-homing to bona fide adoption programs around the country. The Oasis Sanctuary is not a zoo, and does not have regular hours when they are open to the public. With reasonable notice they are usually able to accommodate visitors. The Oasis is located approximately 50 miles east of Tucson, Arizona in the San Pedro River Valley, not far from Benson, Arizona. Our remote location affords a peaceful home for our over 600 residents, and minimizes conflict with our human neighbors. Photo gallery
